What is Noun

Noun  is a name of word .Anything  we can touch ,see 
 ,feel,smell, taste, hear mentions as a noun is called Noun


"A  Noun  is a word used  as a name of person, place and thing" is called Noun.

Noun can act as a Subject.  Noun can also function  as a verb and adjective.

Example of Noun -

People - Ram, Mohan, Man, Person, Women, girl, tommy, 


place- America, Delhi ,Classroom, Mumbai, Karnataka,  small

 town,Village ,Hospital,Temple, Hill, Station, etc.


Things/ object- Table Chair, Tree,books, Pen, Bed, Bat,

 Blackboard,Mug.


Animal- Dog, lion, Shark, zebra, aquatic.



Types of noun & Example

1-  common Noun  

Definition-   A general name for a person, place,or thing

Example:  boy, city, dog,book

Sentence- I saw a dog in the park.


2- Proper Noun-

Definition- The Specific name of a person,place,or thing (always starts with a capital letter).

Examples- Ravi, london,Sunday,Coca-Cola

Sentence -  ravi is my neighbour.

3- Collective Noun

Definition-  A noun that refers to a group of people,animals, or things

Example: team, bunch, class , herd.

Sentence- The class is quiet today.

4- Abstract Noun

Definition: A noun that refe`rs to ideas, feeling qualities , or concepts - things you can't touch.

Example- love, honesty, freedom good ,happy.
